Ceoliac disease and Roundup

Roundup

“Here, we propose that glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide, Roundup®, is the most important causal factor in this epidemic.”

Barley, Corn, Sorgum, Wheat, Molasses, Wheat Bran, Canola, Cotton Seed and Sunflower oil contain the highest levels of Roundup. Stay off and you will reduce your glyphosate levels 100 fold.  But why should you be worried about Roundup?  It’s been used for years.  This article explains why.

Media frenzy over Catalyst documentary on Cholesterol

Catalyst, a very conservative ABC science program, ran a great episode on Saturated Fat and Cholesterol on 24th October. (Similar material to my post here.) How dare Catalyst criticise our long held views on Saturated Fat. Check out the response!

EMF – mobile phones and computers

IMG_1050

I  trained as an electrical engineer and even though I know EMF interacts with our bodies (most people have experienced sunburn) I guess in my head I’ve always put the electrical world (electricity, wires, computers, mobile phones etc)  into a different category to the biological world of plants and animals. If you can’t see it it can’t hurt you!

Australia is WAY behind the rest of the world on all this stuff

We’re way behind…  Travelling round NZ recently made me realise how backward we are in Australia. We are so conservative in the way we trust the medical profession  and the media and we are also unaware of the different views that other countries hold. Continue reading

‘There’s nothing healthy about a tan.’

reef

In Australia there’s an add on TV with the punchline “There’s nothing healthy about a tan.”

This add  is complete a lie by the Australian Government, there’s  plenty healthy about a tan.

I’m not sure how the government can run this add in a nation where 1/3 of adults are vitamin D deficient.  Anyway, how much sun is good for us? How much is really unhealthy? Read on…

Food Additives that change your children’s behaviour

Screen Shot 2013-11-16 at 1.49.35 PM

This is where we started out on our journey for good health via real food.

Food colours and flavours do affect your kids behaviour. If you suggested that to people 20 years ago people may have thought you were a bit paranoid. It’s more accepted in Australia nowadays, but still our food is full of junk and our kids have all sorts of behavioural issues and skin conditions.   Continue reading

Cholesterol has changed it’s mind

All my life I’ve been told to stay away from cholesterol, and now we are told cholesterol is actually our friend.

wow.

This study is fascinating…

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1312230/

It seems to say that the Mediterranean diet is better than statins for reducing heart attack, even though it doesn’t really  lower cholesterol levels. Exciting, but in the conclusion it does a backflip and says keep taking your drugs to keep drug companies happy, oops I mean to keep your cholesterol low.

Raw Milk is good for you but don’t drink it!

Cleopatra_s_Bath_Milk2

I love these journal articles. Yes, raw milk is better for allergies, but we don’t recommend drinking it because we haven’t worked out exactly why it’s good.

Indoor Plants – the VOC solution

peace

This study from NASA in 1989 tells us

” most environmental scientists and government agencies agree that indoor air pollution is a realistic threat to human health”

It turns out that NASA tried all sorts of technologies to see which was the most efficient way to purify air from toxins. The answer was… plants!

So if you do want to do something about air pollution in your home or office, get some plants.  Read this NASA article for more details on which plants are better for which toxins

Dust Mites – it’s OK to have wool carpet now!

15 years ago the allergy clinic told us to rip up all our carpet and replace it with lino to help our children avoid asthma – so we did.

Now latest research tells us to get rid of all our lino and put the in wool carpet back in!!!

Will it all change again in 15 years?  I hope not.
